Why does redeeming miles have to be so hard?

I mean really, you save your miles for months (or even years) to get enough for a ticket, and then try to use them? Aaarrrggh! Either there’s no mileage seats available for the flights you want, or the only flights available for redemption are 3- and 4- connection red-eyes, or the mileage is double the normal amount required! It sucks!

I’ve completely given up on Delta. For YEARS I carried the American Express Delta SkyMiles credit card, and used it for both personal and business expenses. Built up a nice amount of miles with them too. Enough for a couple of round-trip tickets so my husband and I could go on a vacation. Do you think I could actually USE them? Ha! Fat chance! Certainly not on any flights within 6 months - I’d have to schedule almost a year out to get any decent flights. There may be some people able to schedule a trip that far in advance, but not us. Between our jobs and kids (school - including summer school) it’s impossible to get everything lined up more than 4 to 5 months in advance. Delta sucks.

Capital One is the worst. They have a LOT of nerve calling their card the “No Hassle Card” - boy is THAT a joke! I used my Capital One card and saved the MilesOne points for over 4 years to get enough for a couple of tickets and guess what?? They started expiring! I got a letter from Capital One telling me that any miles posted to my account over a certain age were due to expire - so now every month I was going to lose as many miles (if not more) than I was earning. So instead of airline tickets I traded them in for a few magazines. Capital One Sucks (yes, with a capital S).

And forget about upgrades - flights are so overbooked these days that - once again unless you’re planning 8 months or more in advance - there’s no shot at using them for an upgraded seat either.

Which is EXACTLY what the airlines want. They do NOT want you to actually USE your miles for flying - not right now anyway - they are all crying about how they are not making money (yeah, right), and if you USE your miles for a ticket, that’s one less ticket on the flight they can sell. So they’d rather that you spend them elsewhere - magazines, gift cards, golf clubs, VIP club passes - whatever - as long as you don’t use them for a ticket.

Frequent Flyer programs are nothing but a big, fat illusion. The concept is broken and needs to be fixed. Are you listening, Airlines?

What do you think of Frequent Flyer Programs?

Dark Days for Travelers

These are dark days indeed………everywhere you look you’ll find items in every imaginable media outlet decrying the sad state of affairs for airline travelers. Flight delays and cancellations, fewer planes flying, less services offered, and a myriad of other problems means that air travelers are harried, hassled, late, and for the most part, unhappy. Some are even miserable.

In short, these days flying sucks.

The Airlines would have you feeling sorry for them - “it’s not our fault!” they proclaim, blaming everyone’s woes on external forces beyond their control - jet fuel prices, inclement weather, the TSA, the FAA, and the Russians. Okay, maybe they’re not blaming the Russians, but I’d be that they will be soon.

Does anyone stop to consider that the Airlines are making billions in profits while giving us poor service and poor traveling conditions? Yes, that’s “billions” with a “B”. In any other industry if a company was giving such poor value, it would not last long. Why do we tolerate this? Because we have little choice and the Airlines know this.

How about a nationwide boycott? A “sit-out” if you will - let’s all agree to take ONE day and NOT FLY anywhere. None of us. Nada. Not one traveler. What do you say?
