Do Something
In some of my posts I’ve mentioned the need for anyone who is frustrated with flying these days to get involved and write to your elected representatives. It’s their job to represent us on a wide variety of matters - to be our voice in Washington - and it’s our job to let them know how we feel and what we want them to do for us. If we don’t speak up about what we care about, then nothing gets done about it. And the old cliche that “the squeaky wheel gets the grease” is undeniably true.
So to make it a little easier for you to take action, here is a list of resources - how to find and contact your Congressperson, Senators, and Representatives. You do still have to write a letter (or email) yourself, but there’s advice on how to do that too.
- How To Write Letters To Congress - a very good article on About.com
- How to Write to your Congressman - ignore the ads at the top and scroll down a bit for a good article on how to write an effective and appropriate letter
- US House of Representatives - Contact Your Congressperson
- Contact Elected Officials: USA.gov
- Congress.org Home Page (use the box in the upper left to find your federal, state, or local officials)
- US Senate: Senators Home Page
- Congressional Email Directory - a private site that catalogs email addresses if you’d prefer email to snail mail.
If you find any additional resources, please comment to let me know and I’ll add them to this page. I’d also love to hear about any responses you get from your letters and emails.
